Our Story
Heaters Tested was founded in 2023 by a team of homeowners, renters, and consumer journalists who were tired of seeing space heaters and thermostats ranked by affiliate payout rather than actual warmth. Between us, we'd bought oil radiators that hummed all night, tower heaters that tripped the circuit breaker, and "energy-saving" thermostats that turned out to be anything but. We knew there had to be a better way to find out what actually works.
So we started Heaters Tested. Every heater we recommend has been plugged in and lived with in a real home — overnight, through cold snaps, in drafty old rooms and modern open-plan spaces alike. Our picks are based on honest, personal experience, never paid placement.

Independence
Brands cannot pay for placement. Our rankings are shaped by personal use and reader feedback, not marketing budgets.

Our review approach is spelled out plainly. Our affiliate relationships are disclosed. Our scoring criteria are set before we ever plug a heater in.

Marguerite Halloran
Marguerite runs most of our long-term space heater and oil radiator reviews from a 1920s farmhouse where every room has its own personality (and its own cold spot). She's the one who insists on living with a heater for at least two full weeks — overnight, through storms, with kids and pets around — before she'll call it good. Between tests she compares notes with readers and reads every owner review she can find.
Devon Okafor
Devon handles our tougher jobs: uninsulated garages, backyard patios in late October, and the workshop where he builds furniture on weekends. He's lived with just about every style of propane and electric heater out there and is blunt about which ones are worth hauling home. He writes the way he talks to his neighbors over the fence — honest, specific, no fluff.

What this never affects: Our rankings. Our scoring criteria are set before we evaluate any product. A brand cannot pay us to rank higher, write a more favorable review, or push a competitor down the list.
